A Hidden Gem of Southern Flavor: Sarah’s Country Cooking

In this Spring edition of Henry Eats, we're shining a spotlight on Country Cooking—and I truly struck gold when I visited Sarah’s Country Cooking. Tucked away at 1060 Eagles Landing Parkway in Stockbridge, this unassuming spot is a true hidden gem.
Owner Andrew shared with me that the restaurant has been serving up homestyle goodness for 15 years, with him at the helm for the past five. While their menu includes all the classics you'd expect from a country kitchen, their execution is anything but ordinary. I was blown away by my lunch: country fried steak smothered in rich gravy, creamy mashed potatoes, a broccoli and rice casserole that stole the show, and a warm, fluffy cornbread muffin. The steak was so tender it practically melted in my mouth, and the potatoes had that unmistakable made-from-scratch taste. Every dish was clearly crafted with care and attention.
The steady stream of diners during my visit was proof of the restaurant’s popularity. Nearly every seat was filled, and the takeout orders were flying out the door. Meals are served cafeteria-style, and the service was quick, friendly, and full of Southern charm.
Beyond what I ordered, Sarah’s Country Cooking offers a hearty rotation of entrées like baked and fried chicken, pork chops, baked tilapia, fried chicken livers, meatloaf, roast beef, beef tips, and fried catfish. On the veggie side, you’ll find Southern staples such as cabbage, mac and cheese, rice, lima beans, black-eyed peas, candied yams, and fried okra. The menu varies slightly each day, so it’s worth checking their online updates—or better yet, dropping by to discover what’s cooking. They also offer veggie plates and a tempting variety of desserts. I couldn’t resist the peach cobbler, and as expected—it was outstanding.
Sarah’s Country Cooking is open for lunch only Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is closed on weekends. So plan a weekday visit—you’ll be glad you did. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you!
